How many times have you longed to do something and then your big BUT got in the way?
Your “but” is your arsenal of excuses. Our excuses are often born of fear.
Take
a minute and think of one of your famous “buts.” Follow that thought
back to the origin. Let’s give a few a try to see what I mean.
“I
want to go the party, BUT I don’t have anything to wear.” Could it be
that you are afraid that others will judge you by your wardrobe?
“I
always wanted to be an athlete, BUT I’m just not coordinated.” Maybe
you were actually afraid that you were not going to make the team. You
didn’t think you were good enough or you didn’t want to work hard
enough.
“I
need to work out, BUT I just don’t have time.” Maybe you are afraid
that if you schedule it into your day, you will actually have to go and
work hard physically for 20 to 60 minutes.
We
have a number of BUTs that get in our way. I am not saying you should
be able to do what ever you want. I realize I am not going to be an
Olympic gymnast, but or no buts about it.
We
all know when deep down we are truly making an excuse and giving
ourselves an easy out to NOT do what it is we WISH we could. Sometimes
we just wish we didn’t have to put forth the effort.
Be
constructive with the energy of your thoughts. Think on things you can
and will do. Thinking about what you can’t or won’t do leaves you
feeling weak and heavy. Lose the BUT and lose some weight! If you desire
something that you know you could obtain, don’t let your BUT get in the
way. Simply replace it with “AND.”
“I
would love to make a difference in the world, AND I will start by
taking responsibility for my thoughts. I will choose to be positive.”
Kick the BUT and decide what your first step will be.
